Fat Grafting
Eastern Shore of Mobile AL Plastic Surgeon | Fat Grafting
You may be a candidate for fat grafting if you have indentations in your skin, depressed scars, or deep wrinkles. If there are grooves, folds or areas of soft tissue depression, your Mobile AL plastic surgeon may recommend this procedure. It can also minimize facial fat loss that occurs with the normal aging process. A fuller, youthful face can be achieved with fat grafting.
The patient’s own fat is collected (suctioned) from a distant donor area and re-injected into the defect area. Fat transfer may require sedation plus local anesthesia if larger amounts of fat are to be collected. Postoperative pain is usually minimal. The most common postoperative issue is swelling and some bruising. This is highly variable based on individual healing characteristics. Swelling could last as long as two weeks. More than one session of fat grafting may be necessary to achieve your goals.
The specific risks and suitability of this procedure for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation, says our Mobile AL plastic surgeon. All procedures have some degree of risk.
Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are unusual.
