Over time, the amount of collagen that’s naturally present in our skin begins to diminish, which can give way to fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and other signs of aging. For anyone looking to improve the appearance of skin aging, acne scars, discoloration, uneven skin texture or stretch marks, SkinPen® microneedling can be used on its own or in combination with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to achieve a smoother, more even and younger-looking complexion.*
Dr. James Koehler is an experienced cosmetic surgeon known for providing excellent patient-centered care and a personalized approach. Are You a Candidate?
Just about anyone who wants to address fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, uneven skin texture and other common skin imperfections could be a good candidate for SkinPen microneedling with or without PRP.*
However, men and women with active infections in surrounding areas may not be candidates for this treatment, as it does require the use of small needles in order to create tiny micro-channels within your skin, leaving you more susceptible to the spread of existing infection.
Educated at the University of Alabama and in practice for over 15 years, Dr. Koehler is a board-certified cosmetic surgeon who is devoted to providing exceptional results.
About SkinPen Microneedling
Also called collagen induction therapy, microneedling involves the use of a small handheld device called SkinPen to create many tiny micro-injuries within the treated skin. SkinPen Precision is the only Class II microneedling device that’s FDA cleared. Microneedling treatment triggers your skin’s own healing and collagen renewal processes, resulting in smoother, firmer and more youthful-looking skin over time.*
Microneedling is not just limited to facial areas. It can also be used virtually anywhere on your body as well to help diminish the appearance of stretch marks, discoloration and sun damage.*
About Microneedling with PRP
Since microneedling creates small openings in your skin, specific topical ingredients such as platelet-rich plasma are much more readily absorbed and utilized by your skin. PRP provides your skin with growth factors that can help to accelerate cell renewal and new collagen production even further.*
You should not apply other topical skincare products directly following your microneedling treatment unless otherwise instructed, as these products will also be absorbed into your skin at an accelerated rate. Dr. Koehler will provide you with detailed aftercare guidelines to help you take great care of your skin following your microneedling with PRP treatment for optimal results.*
SkinPen Microneedling and PRP Costs
Our practice offers SkinPen microneedling on its own for $300. Microneedling with PRP costs $800. Although many people see a significant improvement in the look and feel of their skin after just one microneedling treatment, you may require multiple sessions to maximize your outcome.*
What to Expect
Depending on the size of the area being treated, each microneedling session usually takes about 30 minutes to complete. If adding PRP to your procedure, Dr. Koehler will first draw a blood sample from you. This sample will be placed in a centrifuge to separate the PRP, which will then be applied to your skin to enhance your results.*
Risks and Complications
Complications can arise from microneedling if you have an active infection at the time of your treatment. You might notice some common side effects such as redness and swelling for a few days after your procedure, but these symptoms typically diminish on their own as your skin continues to heal.*
Your New Look
Most people see the best results after a series of microneedling treatments, although you might notice an improvement in your skin’s appearance after just a single session. Because microneedling procedure works by stimulating collagen renewal, your results should continue to develop over the next several weeks.*
