Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is one of the most effective ways to treat spider veins and small varicose veins. We perform sclerotherapy right in our office with no incisions or stitches. You’ll also have very little downtime so you can enjoy an improved look with minimal disruption to your usual routine.
Recognized as a top provider of sclerotherapy treatments in the Mobile-Pensacola metro area, Eastern Shore Cosmetic Surgery serves patients from Gulfport to Gulf Shores and beyond. In addition to sclerotherapy, we offer spider vein and vascular lesion treatments with our EVO Light laser.
Are You a Candidate?
Sclerotherapy can be highly effective for people who have bothersome spider veins or smaller varicose veins. Spider veins are thin, visible veins that do not bulge from the skin and are generally red, blue or purple in color. Varicose veins have a ropy, bulged appearance. Smaller varicose veins can respond well to sclerotherapy, while more developed varicosities may require endovenous ablation or vein surgery. During your consultation, we will be able to advise you on if you are an acceptable candidate.
Dr. Gardner

A triple-board-certified surgeon specializing in both cosmetic and venous procedures, Dr. Gardner brings a depth of expertise, compassion, and innovation to our practice.

We are excited to offer Pro-Nox pain relief that can be added to any of the in-office procedures we perform. Pro-Nox is an inhaled analgesic that gives our patients 100% control through self-administration. Get short-term pain, anxiety, and stress relief without having to “go under.”
Recovery & Results
After your treatments, Dr. Gardner may instruct you to wear compression stockings to speed up recovery. These may need to be worn for a few days or a few weeks. You will also need to avoid exposing any treated areas to sunlight, but otherwise should not have any activity restrictions. If your visible veins have also caused physical symptoms like heaviness, achiness, or fatigue, you should start to feel better as the veins begin to dissolve.
The timeline for seeing results depends on the severity of your veins and your body’s individual response. Spider veins treated with sclerotherapy usually look better within 3 to 6 weeks after treatment, with small varicose veins needing up to 3 to 4 months for full improvement. Keep in mind that new veins may appear over time and may require a new series of injections to keep your skin looking its best.

Sclerotherapy FAQs
How much does sclerotherapy cost in Alabama?
The cost of sclerotherapy in Alabama can vary depending on how many veins are treated and the number of sessions needed. Because treatment is often done in a series, your total investment will depend on your individual goals and the extent of your veins. For this reason, we can provide you with a personalized cost estimate at the time of your consultation.
Does insurance cover the cost of sclerotherapy?
In most cases, no. Sclerotherapy is typically considered a cosmetic treatment when used for spider veins. However, if you have larger, symptomatic veins causing discomfort, there may be limited situations where insurance applies.
What type of veins is sclerotherapy best for?
Sclerotherapy is most effective for small to medium-sized spider veins and superficial veins, especially on the legs. It’s considered one of the gold standard treatments for improving the appearance of these visible veins.
How many treatments will I need?
Most people need a series of treatments for the best results. Depending on the number and size of veins, this can range from 1 to 3 sessions or more. Your treatment plan will be customized based on your specific concerns.
How long does a sclerotherapy appointment take?
Appointments are typically quick and convenient, often lasting anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes depending on how many areas are being treated.
Do I need to avoid sun exposure after sclerotherapy?
Yes, we recommend limiting sun exposure after treatment. Protecting the treated area from the sun helps to reduce the risk of temporary discoloration and supports better healing.
Can I travel after sclerotherapy?
Short trips are usually fine, but it’s best to avoid long periods of sitting, such as extended flights, right after treatment. Staying mobile helps to promote healthy circulation and optimal results.
Will I need maintenance treatments in the future?
Possibly. While treated veins won’t come back, new spider veins can develop over time. Many patients choose occasional maintenance treatments to keep their results looking their best.
How soon will I see results?
Results are gradual. Some veins may begin to fade within a few weeks, but full improvement typically takes several weeks to a few months as your body absorbs the treated veins.
Are spider veins a sign of a deeper vein problem?
Sometimes, but not always. Many spider veins are purely cosmetic, but in some cases, they can be linked to underlying vein issues. If there’s any concern, a more thorough evaluation can help determine the cause.
