Make Some Lifestyle Changes
Before you even have your tummy tuck procedure, there are some changes you can make to help promote healing and minimize your scarring. If you are a smoker, give it up at least 6 weeks before your procedure and continue to refrain from smoking for at least 6 weeks after. Smoking can hinder recovery and healing, which can increase scarring.
Another thing you can do before your tummy tuck, if you aren’t already, is start eating a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water. A diet rich in healthy proteins, fruits and vegetables promotes optimal healing. Staying hydrated helps your skin rebuild and recover after your procedure and reduces scarring.
Follow All After-Care Instructions
After your tummy tuck procedure, it is essential to follow all your after-care instructions. Every cosmetic surgeon has different methods and protocols following a procedure and your physician will instruct you on how to care for your incision. In most cases, Steri-Strips will cover your incision for the first month.
Talk with Your Surgeon About Minimizing Your Scar
Before you have your tummy tuck, talk with your Dr. Koehler about any scarring concerns. Together you can create a plan to help minimize the scarring, so you know what to expect and how to best care for your incision.
