When you get the first glimpse of your breasts after your breast augmentation, you might be a little confused by their odd shape. While you might be expecting smooth, round breasts, it’s not uncommon for your implants to appear square or elongated at first. Before you panic, know that this is often a normal part of the recovery process.
This quick guide explains why you might have a case of square boobs after breast augmentation and when you can expect to see a softer, rounder shape.
Why Do My Breasts Look Square?
In the first week or so after your breast enhancement, your natural tissue will need time to adjust to the new size and shape of your breast implants.
When the breast pocket — the area where your implants are placed — is still tight, it can push against your implants and create a boxy appearance. Implants also tend to “ride high” on your chest wall during this phase.
When Will My Implants “Drop and Fluff”?
It’s normal for breast implants to look like they’re too high on your chest at first, but they’ll gradually drop.
As your body becomes accustomed to your new implants, you’ll start to notice what we often call “dropping and fluffing.” This refers to the softening and dropping of your breast implants into a lower, more natural-looking position. Once this occurs, the shape of your implants will start to become more round, eliminating any squared edges.
Around three months after your breast augmentation, your implants should have nearly completed this dropping and fluffing process.
Can I Speed up My Breast Augmentation Recovery?
There’s no way to fast-forward your breast enhancement recovery to quickly get to the final results. But you can help your body to heal more efficiently by eating healthy meals, drinking plenty of water and getting enough rest.
