A deep plane facelift is an advanced technique that offers some of the most natural-looking facelift results possible. Because it minimizes pulling directly on the skin and instead addresses the underlying structural tissue, the deep plane technique can also reduce bruising and swelling during recovery.
That said, it is still a surgical procedure that will require some downtime. To help you know what to expect during your deep plane facelift recovery, Dr. Koehler has put together some practical tips to keep in mind.
Expect Some Swelling and Tightness
Swelling, tightness and facial pressure are very common following a deep plane facelift. These symptoms are typically the most pronounced in the first 1 to 2 weeks after your procedure and should begin to gradually improve in the coming weeks.
Many of Dr. Koehler’s Alabama patients report experiencing minimal pain, although some discomfort is expected due to swelling and pressure. Some people may experience some numbness or tingling sensations, but those should also dissipate over time.
Plan to Rest and Take It Easy
Dr. Koehler recommends planning to take a minimum of 1 week off work and other obligations to simply rest and lounge around the house. Depending on how physically demanding your job is, you may need to take an additional week of light duty.
During this time, you’ll want to make sure you have plenty to keep you occupied, such as books, movies, puzzles and other entertainment. Stock up on these items beforehand so you have everything you need for a calm, stress-free facelift recovery.
While you will need to limit physical activity during this time, it is important to get up and walk around the house every so often to promote blood flow and healing.
You’ll Need to Sleep with Your Head Elevated
Keeping your head elevated will help to reduce swelling while you heal, so it’s important to sleep in a propped-up position too for the first 2 to 3 weeks. Many of Dr. Koehler’s patients find that using a wedge pillow keeps them comfortable, although you could also prepare a comfortable spot in a recliner or propped up with pillows in bed or on the couch.
You Won’t See Final Results Just Yet
Try not to focus too much on your results while you recover from your deep plane facelift. It will take some time for swelling to go down and results to develop, so don’t worry if your outcome doesn’t look exactly how you’d expected at first. Over the coming weeks, your facelift results should gradually improve and take shape, revealing your final outcome around 3 to 6 months out.
