Age, heredity, excessive weight and a career that requires prolonged standing can all contribute to the formation of spider veins. Spider veins are a dilation of the superficial small blood vessels near the skin surface. These are different from varicose veins, which are the large, dilated, ropey deep veins. Treatment of spider veins is purely cosmetic, whereas the management of varicose veins can be considered medically necessary.
Are You a Candidate?
The best candidates for spider vein treatments are women or men with visible bluish-red veins on the face or legs. During your consultation, we will be able to advise you on if you are an acceptable candidate and the most appropriate treatment for your condition.
About Spider Vein Treatment
At Eastern Shore Cosmetic Surgery, we use the GentleMax™ laser to remove the unwanted spider veins. Even after one treatment you will see improvement, but it usually takes a series of treatments to achieve the best results if you have extensive spider veins. The number of treatments depends on the extent of your spider veins.
Educated at the University of Alabama and in practice for over 15 years, Dr. Koehler is a board-certified cosmetic surgeon who is devoted to providing exceptional results.
Spider Vein Treatment Costs
At our practice, the cost of vein treatment ranges from $100 to $200 per treatment. Your total cost will vary depending on the area being treated and the number of treatments required to achieve results. Dr. Koehler and his staff are happy to answer any questions you may have about spider vein pricing and help you fully understand the costs associated with spider vein treatment.
What to Expect
The treatments can take up to an hour depending on the size of the area being treated. Spider veins are treated with injections or with the GentleMax™ YAG laser. Patients may experience a slight stinging or discomfort that is quickly relieved by the cryogenic spray used by the GentleMax™ to cool the skin.
You can experience some redness of the skin after treatment, which usually subsides after a few hours. You can resume your regular activities immediately after your treatment.
Risks and Complications
Generally there are few risks associated with spider vein treatment. Spider veins treated with the laser may remain dark in color for several weeks until the vessel shrinks completely.
Your New Look
You should see results after just one treatment, but in most cases extensive spider veins will require several treatments for maximum improvement. New spider veins may appear over time and additional treatments may be needed.
